MYANMAR STRENGTHENS IP SYSTEM TO PROMOTE INDUSTRY AND FOREIGN INVESTMENT
11/10/2025
At the international conference on intellectual property held in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, senior general Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of Myanmar’s State Administration Council, highlighted the importance of intellectual property protection. He noted that IP is a central pillar of the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan, as it encourages creativity, innovation, and sustainable industrial growth. The conference brought together local and international experts, who shared research and best practices on IP management.
Myanmar’s current challenge lies in the absence of a fully developed and effective IP protection framework. Without strong IP safeguards, the country risks discouraging innovation, weakening its industrial competitiveness, and losing opportunities for attracting foreign investors who require reliable IP enforcement mechanisms before committing capital.
The government has expressed its commitment to strengthening the IP system by integrating IP rights into Myanmar’s economic framework. At the conference, strategies were discussed for building a robust IP infrastructure that not only stimulates industrial development but also provides investors with confidence in the country’s ability to protect their innovations. Scholars and industry experts presented actionable insights to ensure that IP protection is aligned with industrial and investment policies.
Myanmar recognizes that a strong IP system is vital for long-term industrial sustainability and foreign investment. By prioritizing IP as part of its national development agenda, the government aims to foster innovation, attract international investors, and position itself as a competitive player in the global industrial landscape.
